Uptown, Harlem Shake reported higher sales for its signature burger, especially on Tuesday evenings when foot traffic along Lenox Avenue increases. Owner Jelena Pasic said the restaurant’s double burger is most popular in late June, with orders rising after 7 p.m. as temperatures drop.
Some diners are seeking out newer spots. At Smashed in Lower Manhattan, the counter was busy past midnight last Saturday. The menu features burgers with thin, crisp edges, starting at $8. Staff said weekend late-night business has been steady since Memorial Day.
The city’s range of burger styles remains wide. Classic diner burgers still draw regulars, while newer venues offer more elaborate options with toppings like kimchi or blue cheese. Prices for burgers in Manhattan now often range from $8 to $21, depending on toppings and location. Outdoor tables fill up quickly at venues with shaded patios or sidewalk seating during the current heat wave.
As summer continues, restaurant owners expect burger demand to remain high, particularly on Fridays and Saturdays. Several plan to extend evening hours for walk-ins as July approaches.
