Campbell Soup Company has released several new products for grocery shelves this week, including its first-ever gluten-free soup. The new option arrived in supermarkets across New York City on Monday, joining a handful of other additions in the company’s summer rotation.
A spokesperson for Campbell’s confirmed that the gluten-free item is a chicken noodle soup, formulated without wheat-based pasta. The company states that the recipe was developed in response to requests from customers with dietary restrictions. The packaging is clearly labeled and priced in line with Campbell’s other condensed soups, selling for $2.29 at multiple Midtown grocers on Tuesday morning.
Gluten-free options have been slow to appear in mainstream soup aisles. Shoppers at the Key Food on Avenue A described the addition as overdue, noting that prepared foods with allergy-friendly labels are now common at city bistros and cafes.
The new soups arrive as July approaches and many New Yorkers seek quick, shelf-stable meals for summer travel or late-night snacks. Industry analysts note that soup sales typically dip during hot weather, but shelf presence can drive year-round recognition.
Other new flavors in Campbell’s rollout include a spicy lentil variety and a tortellini minestrone, both available at major retailers by midweek. Campbell’s said it expects to monitor feedback and adjust future offerings accordingly.
