Documents filed in federal court show the group is seeking to restructure debts attributed in part to the extended impact of pandemic-era disruptions. Staff at the group's venues were informed of the filing late Monday night, according to a manager at Cafe Fiorello. As of Tuesday morning, restaurants under the Fireman banner remained open, serving breakfast crowds along Seventh Avenue and Lincoln Center.
Legal representatives for the group declined to specify which locations could face closure in the coming weeks. Landlords in Midtown and the Upper West Side have expressed concern about potential vacancies if negotiations falter. One server at Redeye Grill described a tense mood in the dining room on Tuesday afternoon, with regulars asking about the fate of their usual spots.
Industry observers note that Fireman Hospitality’s financial distress comes at a time when commercial rents in Midtown remain high, while labor costs have increased steadily since last year.
