A Denny’s location in a Southern California beach community closed its doors over the weekend, ending a six-decade run. The restaurant, known as a late-night gathering spot for locals and tourists, served its last Grand Slam breakfast on Sunday.
Residents learned of the closure late last week. By Monday morning, regulars gathered outside the shuttered building, some taking photos of the locked doors. “I’m bummed,” one longtime patron told a reporter outside the restaurant.
The Denny’s had operated on the same block for over 60 years, according to local records. It was a familiar stop for post-surf breakfasts, family outings, and overnight meals for late-shift workers.
The company cited undisclosed business reasons for the closure. Staff were notified in advance, and some have been offered transfers to other Denny’s locations in the region.
The loss of the diner leaves a gap in the neighborhood’s late-night dining options, especially as summer crowds fill the boardwalk. Some nearby businesses expressed concern about reduced foot traffic during the busy season.
