Major Food Group is moving into the ground floor at 375 Greenwich Street, the longtime home of Tribeca Grill. The space, known for decades as a downtown mainstay, closed its doors earlier this year. The new concept, described by representatives as an American tavern, is being led by chefs Rich Torrisi, Mario Carbone, and partner Jeff Zalaznick.
On Friday afternoon, workers were spotted clearing out the last of the old furnishings from the corner of Franklin and North Moore streets. Neighbors say the Tribeca Grill sign came down last week. The group behind Carbone and Torrisi has not disclosed a name or opening date, but construction permits are posted in the windows.
Major Food Group’s entry marks a shift for the block, which has seen a wave of new openings this spring. The company is known for its high-profile Italian restaurants, but this project is billed as a departure, leaning into American comfort food and steaks.
The Tribeca Grill space has a long backstory, co-founded by actor Robert De Niro and restaurateur Drew Nieporent. It hosted numerous film and art events over its three-decade run. Now, with the summer sidewalk scene in full swing, the neighborhood is watching to see how Major Food Group will reshape the address.
