A Midtown food stand is now offering a hot dog priced at $100. The menu item, available as of this week, features a grilled Wagyu sausage dressed with caviar and finished with 24-karat edible gold leaf. On Monday afternoon at the corner of Sixth Avenue and 45th Street, a steady stream of onlookers gathered to watch the preparation. The vendor, who declined to give his name but said he has operated in the area since spring, described the dog as 'something for tourists and special occasions.'
The hot dog is served on a brioche bun with additional garnishes of crème fraîche and finely sliced chives. A laminated menu at the cart lists the ingredients and the $100 price. Regular hot dogs, priced at $4, remain available.
One customer, visiting from out of town, said she bought the luxury version for her son's birthday. 'It’s a splurge, but it’s fun,' she said, adding that her group shared a single dog. The vendor confirmed he sells roughly five of the high-priced hot dogs per day, mostly to visitors or people celebrating an event.
The stand operates daily through late evening. On Tuesday, business picked up as office workers left for the day and tourists lingered in the heat. The vendor said the hot dog will stay on the menu through Labor Day, or as long as ingredients remain in stock.
