The Midtown steakhouse The Prime Cut has permanently closed its doors as of April 15. The restaurant, which opened in 2018, cited rising rent costs and changing diner habits as contributing factors to the closure. Staff have been offered positions at other locations owned by the same group.
Meanwhile, chef Marcus Lee, formerly of The Prime Cut, will join the kitchen team at the newly opened Brooklyn restaurant Hearth & Grain. The Williamsburg venue is focusing on seasonal American fare with an emphasis on wood-fired cooking. Lee’s appointment is expected to influence the menu significantly.
In other neighborhood news, a Lower East Side cafe, Bean & Barrel, has expanded its breakfast offerings to include more vegan and gluten-free options. This move reflects growing demand for dietary accommodation in the area. The adjustments come as the neighborhood continues to see a steady influx of new residents and shifting dining preferences.
