Oberon, a new restaurant led by chef Riley Tran, opened this week on the second floor of the New Museum on the Bowery. The dining room overlooks the sidewalk traffic and displays works from emerging artists. Lunch and dinner are offered Wednesday through Sunday, with a five-course tasting menu centered on late-summer produce. Prices start at $82 per person.
The opening comes as museum visitors and downtown workers seek indoor refuge from the July heat. On Wednesday, tables filled quickly after 1 p.m., and Tran’s team moved efficiently between guests and gallery staff. The current menu features grilled nectarine with ricotta, poached tilefish, and a sorrel granita for dessert.
Elsewhere, Bark Barbecue launched its new location on Knickerbocker Avenue in Bushwick. The counter-service spot adds jerk chicken and plantain sides to its Texas-style brisket lineup. Lunch traffic on Tuesday included construction crews and families from the neighborhood.
In Dumbo, Titán has started a month-long series of collaboration dinners with chef Dalia Gómez of Oaxaca. The first event featured mole negro and mezcal pairings. Tickets have sold out for the July 12 seating, with additional dates expected to be added this month.
