A new taqueria and cafe has joined the stretch of Bedford Avenue in Bed-Stuy. Olmo, the Mexican cantina known for its mezcal selection and casual dining, has expanded into the space next door. The new project, called Peral, is a partnership with Mexico City’s Cicatriz cafe and bar. The doors are set to open later this month, as late summer crowds move between neighborhood parks and local bars.
Peral aims for an all-day format, starting with coffee and light breakfast, then switching to tacos and small plates by midday. The menu draws on Mexico City street food—tacos al pastor, quesadillas, and housemade salsas. Iced coffee and agua frescas are listed alongside beers and cocktails. Prices for tacos are expected to start around $5 each.
The collaboration ties into a wider trend this season. Several Mexico City-rooted kitchens have appeared in New York, including Taquería El Califa de León in NoHo and Tacos Domingo in Williamsburg. At Peral, the team says they want to offer a casual place for weekday lunches and late-night snacks.
On Monday afternoon, workers were still finishing the outdoor seating area. A staff member said they expect a soft opening before the end of August. For now, Olmo continues to serve dinner next door. Peral’s opening comes as Bed-Stuy’s dining scene continues to shift with new arrivals and collaborations.
