Socceria, a new soccer-themed bar, opens its doors this Saturday, May 30, on Norman Avenue in Greenpoint. The project comes from chef Giovanni Cervantes and Tania Apolinar, the duo behind Taqueria Ramirez and Carnitas Ramirez. The bar occupies the former Nura space, at the corner of Norman Avenue and Guernsey Street.
The timing coincides with the start of the World Cup, drawing attention from local soccer fans looking for a place to watch matches. Staff confirmed that Socceria will screen live games throughout the tournament. Doors open at noon on Saturday, with kitchen service to begin later in the day.
The bar will serve a concise menu, with snacks and drinks inspired by the team’s previous ventures. Early visitors can expect several Mexican beers, cocktails, and a few signature bar bites. Prices for drinks will mostly fall in the $8 to $15 range, according to opening staff.
Greenpoint residents have already noted the transformation of the space earlier this week, with new signage and outdoor seating installed. The area, home to a growing number of food and drink options, sees an uptick in foot traffic on weekends, especially with the World Cup underway.
Socceria joins a short list of new neighborhood bars opening ahead of summer. The team behind it says they will adjust opening hours based on match schedules and customer turnout in the coming weeks.
