Federal food safety officials announced on Thursday that almost 6,000 pounds of frozen meatloaf products are being recalled due to undeclared soy. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) classified the action as a Class II recall. This indicates a remote chance of adverse health effects for consumers with soy allergies.
Affected products were distributed nationally and may have reached food service establishments in New York. The recall arrives at a time when many city restaurants rely on pre-prepared foods to meet summer demand, particularly for catering and large-scale meal service.
The FSIS said the meatloaf items were produced by a single manufacturer and shipped in bulk. Packaging did not list soy among the ingredients. No confirmed illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported so far.
Restaurant operators and kitchen managers are being asked to check inventory for the specified lots. Undeclared allergens can pose a risk for diners with sensitivities, especially during busy summer service when ingredient checks may be rushed.
