This week, Midtown bars have filled with soccer fans in bright jerseys and face paint. Social media has circulated videos of visitors marveling at bottomless coffee and tortilla chips. On Wednesday night at a Times Square chain, a group of France supporters applauded a server for offering unlimited soda refills.

Some restaurants have leaned into the moment. A Tex-Mex spot in Hell’s Kitchen placed signs touting free salsa for 'all World Cup guests.' Managers say foot traffic has doubled since group play began. But not every story online reflects what’s happening in the dining rooms. Several viral clips showing tourists surprised by American dining customs have turned out to be staged or filmed with actors.

Restaurant staff say the interest is real, but the novelty may be overstated. "A lot of Europeans already know about free refills," said Maria Lopez, a Midtown server on Thursday afternoon. "They ask for it. Sometimes they even expect it."

As the tournament continues, more fans are expected across Manhattan and Queens, especially near viewing parties at public parks. Outdoor seating is in high demand during evening matches. Some establishments are adjusting hours to accommodate late-night kickoffs, particularly on weekends.
