A line of soup sold at Whole Foods and through Amazon has been recalled, according to a statement from the Food and Drug Administration issued Friday. The affected products were available at several New York City Whole Foods locations as well as online for local delivery.
The recall involves multiple varieties of soup. The FDA cited concerns over possible contamination but did not provide details on any reported illnesses in New York City as of Saturday. Signs appeared near prepared foods sections at Whole Foods in Tribeca and Williamsburg late Friday, advising customers to check their purchases.
Whole Foods staff at the Columbus Circle store confirmed Saturday morning that the recalled soups were removed from shelves overnight. Online listings for the same products on Amazon now show them as unavailable for delivery to Manhattan and Brooklyn addresses.
The FDA advises anyone who purchased the affected soups in the past two weeks to dispose of them or return them for a refund. New Yorkers with questions can contact the retailer or check the FDA’s website for batch numbers and additional information.
This recall comes at a time when many residents are shopping for quick meals as outdoor events and school activities pick up. Store managers say they are reviewing other prepared foods as a precaution.
